The words in a language are a true reflection of people’s life. The lexis
in a language is like a living organism that grows, evolves, changes, and adapts
to the environment in which it is used. The appearance of new words in a language, their meaning, use and function, is a result of many factors, e.g. historical, economic, political, social, etc., which influence people’s life and facilitate the development of the language they speak. Therefore, by using the synchronic approach in studying the lexis of a language, i.e. in one particular period of time, one can have a very close look at the life of the people in that period.
